Bismuth crystallizes in amazing hoppered shapes when it grows on a cooling melt.  The edges of hoppered crystals are fully developed, but the interior spaces are not filled in.  The crystal grew so rapidly that there was not enough time to fill in the gaps.  This piece features steep inverted pyramids with sharp stair steps leading down, all colored an amazing assortment of metallic iridescent colors, mainly blue, silver and gold. Because it was lab grown, there is no damage to this choice specimen.
