This is a beautiful specimen of ACANTHITE (ARGENTITE) from the Imiter Mine, Boumalne-Dades, Ouarzazate Province, Souss-Mass-Draa Region, Morocco. This is from the recent find in Morocco, and we picked it up at the Tucson Gem, Rock & Mineral Show from one of the Moroccan dealers who (fortunately) didn't think it was worth two arms and a leg.

Morocco has a history of silver mining stretching back more than a millennium. The Imiter Mine, which is still in operation, is the largest silver mine in Africa, and one of the 10 largest and richest silver mines in the world. Imiter is controlled by Morocco's biggest metals miner Managem.
