This ALABANDITE crystal comes from the new 2013 find at Merelani Hills, Lelatema Mts, Simanjiro District, Manyara Region, Tanzania (the same locality that produces tanzanite). The crystals from this find are exceptionally sharp, octahedral affairs in a dark, flat black color. The crystals from this find far surpass those from the 2010 find at Uchucchucua Mine in Peru. Specimens from this find are only just reaching the market. I was able to buy several really sharp, world-class size individual crystals with no etching from a dealer who had to wait until just before the end of the show for his shipment to arrive. We were there as he was unpacking, and picked out the best from the lot.
