I collected this striking specimen of diopside in July, 1997 in southern Quebec, at an old nickel mine near Orford - the Orford Nickel Mine, St-Denis-de-Brompton, Le Val-Saint-François RCM, Estrie, Quebec, Canada. An old dirt road had been upgraded, and the bulldozer cut across the corner of an old dump - and that turned out to be extremely lucky! We found a couple of great specimens of bladed crystals frozen in calcite, just waiting to be etched out and brought into the light. This quality specimen is highly aesthetic in appearance, and should be of interest to any serious mineral collector. When we show specimens like this to friends who are not mineral collectors, we sometimes tell them in jest that it is called linguini-ite (because that is what the crystals strongly resemble)!
